DIY Credit Repair
There are a number of organizations and agencies that offer their services to assist you with fixing your credit report. But because most of them are commercial organizations, you will have to pay them in order to get their services. This may seem like a huge problem. Since financial difficulties led you to having a bad credit score, it will be harder for you to spend money on making your credit score better.
Contrary to what these organizations tell you, you don't have to get their services in order to fix your credit. There are some DIY credit repair techniques that you can use to get a better credit score. Here are some of them:
Get a copy of your credit report
You must know what is in your credit reports before deciding on the action to take regarding them. You don't have to pay for this because every year, you can get one free credit report from each of the credit bureaus.
Contact your creditors regarding the inaccurate entries
Check the entries on your credit report, and contact your creditors regarding records that were already settled or were misrepresented.
Make payment arrangements with your creditors
Call your creditors and try negotiating payment arrangements with them. By being polite, you may request them to take the negative entries off in exchange of new payment agreements regarding your accounts.
Create new payment histories
If you are having trouble fixing the past payment records, do your best to create new and better payment histories. You might need the help of friends with good credit standing here. There are also some techniques that will require you to use some money (which you can recover later on) when applying for loans.
These are just some steps in repairing the credit history on your own. If you need more information, you may contact a debt counsellor. There are some organizations that offer debt conselling free of charge.
