A bad credit score can affect any person in various ways. There may be times that you will be turned down for new loan applications. When applying for utilities, such as phone and electricity, you might be asked to submit a lot of documents or to pay a deposit before you will be provided with the services. There are also people who were turned down for some jobs because of their low credit scores.

It is because of its impact on your life that you must pay close attention to what your credit score is saying. If you have a bad credit history, you must do something immediately to fix your credit.

Add your positive credit history

One of the ways to fix your credit is to contact your creditors. There are two ways by which your creditors can make your credit report look better. The first group of creditors that you can contact is those with whom you have good credit standing. Contact them and inform them that they will be contacted by a credit bureau. Inform them that you are authorizing them to release your payment history to the credit bureau. You might be required to submit some documents informing the creditor that they have your consent on speaking with the credit bureau. After this, contact the credit bureau. For a fee, they will contact the creditor (that you have good payment histories with). After updating your records, your score with that credit bureau will be a bit better.

Negotiate to take off the bad credit report

Another reason for you to contact your creditors is to make payment arrangements with them. If you expect that you will be late in making a payment, inform your creditor beforehand and try asking for a payment extension. However, if your account is already in the delinquent status and has been reported to the credit bureau, try negotiating for a payment plan in to help make up for the bad credit rating.
